Dysport was developed to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing or removing wrinkles. Dysport is nearly identical to Botox, but it works faster than Botox and the units of Dysport are not interchangeable with those of Botox. The procedure is considered a safe, effective way of treating aging skin. Common areas for Dysport injections include horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. Dysport has proven to be the best non-surgical form of facial rejuvenation and is capable of producing phenomenal improvements in your appearance. The cost of Dysport is $4.17/unit. Three units of Dysport are equivalent to one unit of Botox.

Dysport is classified as a neurotoxin and contains botulism toxin A. The effect of Dysport is typically seen after 3 or 4 days. This treatment paralyzes facial muscles, and thereby relaxes and reduces winkles caused by the contraction of these muscles. Dysport can also prevent the formation of these wrinkles, if they are used before the wrinkles are formed. Dysport will remove deep lines. Treatment of deep lines requires either a filler injection or a resurfacing procedure like a peel. It is important to understand that this product cannot prevent wrinkles caused by sagging skin from the effects of gravity or wrinkles caused by years of sun exposure.

The procedure works by altering the facial muscles beneath the skin that are related to wrinkles. If requested by the patient, a cream with local anesthetic will be placed on your skin prior to treatment, and ice will be immediately applied upon completion of the Dysport treatment.  Dysport works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. The result is the underlying facial muscles relax and the skin begins to smooth out. The effects of a Dysport treatment will last approximately three to four months after which the patient may choose to repeat the procedure.
